I've heard about using tinfoil on furniture to keep cats from clawing. For whatever reason (okay, laziness), I hadn't gotten around to trying it. Then Mom informed me that packing tape works, too, so last week I got down to the business of taping my poor, messed up furniture. It seems to be working, too. A couple of strategically placed blankets and throw pillows minimize the tackiness of it all.
I wish that furniture stores would let me take Harley with me to "cat test" a new sofa. The one he doesn't like to scratch on? I'll take it! I don't care if it's purple (much).
In the mean time, there's packing tape, and a squirt bottle of water on standby.
